Diatomaceous Earth consists of the fossilized remains of diatoms, a microscopic algae. Calcined Clay is an additive that improves drainage by supplying balanced pore space for air and water. It provides excellent water retention, soaking up its full weight in water. This water is then slowly dispersed to the plant, allowing for steady absorption over time.

Perlite is produced from a silica-based volcanic glass, generally created from the hydration of obsidian, and is white in color. This lightweight aggregate retains some water, but is mostly used as a space filler. Perlite helps to keep soil in ideal condition by preventing it from being compacted. It will not degrade, but is very soft and able to be crushed.

Pumice is a light-weight form of volcanic rock that has a crushable and porous structure. Pumice holds about four times it’s weight in water and drains well. Pumice is a chemical-free aggregate that is light grey or white in color.
